The LT3100 GMDSS: We're almost there!

In July, at our last meeting with the manufacturer, we were briefed on the certification processes underway, including the European Commission's approval of the new GMDSS standard IEC 61097-16. This was approved and implemented in September in the equipment.

Now the next and final step is to have DNV-GL perform an audit and issue the MED certificate for the Wheel mark. The task is time consuming but the objective of the manufacturer is to obtain the certificate before the end of November.

Technical training

The technical training started at the end of August with the "air bandwidth" providers and is progressing at full speed with a full schedule for the rest of the month. Afterwards, the training will be aimed at the manufacturer's GMDSS partners. The manufacturer also specifies that among the GMDSS partners, those who have already ordered LT-3100S will have priority over any available technical training places.

Ordering and Delivery of LT-3100S GMDSS Terminals

Due to the delay on the various certifications for the GMDSS LT-3100S, we recommend, for those of you who have not yet placed an order to avoid long delivery times.

A Monolithic & Versatile V/UHF Transceiver

The JOTRON equipment TR-7700VU Sol-Air Multichannel V/UHF AM multichannel dual-band radio is a unique and monolithic equipment of 3U 19" dimension without any additional elements associated to the outside of its structure, it has 3 connection possibilities for the head elements and internally has an antenna die-casting in compliance with the specifications, finally it complies with the highest Aeronautical Standards of the EUROCAE ED137 B&C, ICAO Annex 10, Implementing Regulation (EU) No. 1079/2012, EUROCONTROL and ETSI regulations

The JOTRON equipment TR-7700 VU has an integrated test system, Climax Mode and works with SNMP V3/V4 protocol. It has a nominal output power of 50 watts in VHF and 30 watts in UHF (up to 50 watts as an option) that can be set in steps of 0.1 dB from 1 watt to the maximum nominal power of 50 watts for VHF and 30 watts for UHF.

Among others, this ground-to-air radio equipment is a V/UHF AM multi-channel dual-band operating on the very high frequency aeronautical band. VHF (civilian from 117.975 to 137MHz and extended to 144MHz to include the military VHF frequency or finally (138MHz to 144MHz) and also on the band UHF (225 MHz to 400 MHz).

In other words, the V/UHF equipment operates in amplitude modulation, in simplex mode, in the VHF frequency range from 118 to 144 MHz in steps of 25 KHz, 12.5 KHz and 8.33 KHz (civil and military) and in the UHF band 225 to 400 MHzin steps of 25 KHz, 12.5 KHz and 8.3 KHz in UHF.

In accordance with Annex 10 of the ICAO recommendations, the frequency step and associated bandwidth parameters are automatically determined by the displayed frequency valueSo, for voice, the JOTRON equipment TR-7700VU operates in three operating modes of channel spacing in 8.33 KHz, 12.5 KHz and 25 KHz in full compliance with the aeronautical telecommunication regulations and standards in force.

This new innovative radio TR-7700VUavailable from JOTRON, has been designed to meet the highest recurring expectations of various civil and military customers who need multi-channel joint V/UHF radios that combine versatility and high quality performance in a single compact package.

the LT3100S GMDSS available for delivery starting this year:

In 2018, the IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) recognized Iridium as a GMDSS satellite service provider. The GMDSS LT-3100S system is designed for all IMO vessels and will be an alternative to the Inmarsat C solution.

The GMDSS LT-3100S system will meet all standards and certification requirements for maritime satellite communication equipment worldwide, such as FCC, ISED, RED and Wheelmark (in progress).

LRIT and SSAS functionalities will be supported in a software update (end of December 2020)
